Minor ii-V-i's #1

In this lesson we’re going to look at minor ii-V-i progressions. Minor ii-V-i’s are different from major ii-V-I’s in that for minor ii-V-i’s, the i is minor rather than Major, the ii and V are usually altered from the standard minor 7th and dominant 7th voicings.

Two songs that rely on minor ii-V-i’s throughout the form are “Whisper Not,” by Benny Golson, and “Beautiful Love,” by Wayne King, Victor Young and Egbert Van Alstyne. We’ll cover the standard alterations featured in minor ii-V-I’s as we go through the circle of 5ths playing 3-note, 3-5-7 RH voicings in all 3 inversions.
