In this lesson we’re going to learn a piano accompaniment arrangement for the neo soul/jazz fusion tune, “Crazy Race” by trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Hargrove recorded “Crazy Race” with his band the RH factor for their 2006 album Distractions.
“Crazy Race” has an uptempo, bass-heavy groove, with a harmonic and rhythmic vamp that repeats with different variations throughout the tune. We’ll learn an arrangement that covers the entire length of the song, exploring the similarities and differences in each cycle of the groove.
